Agentic commerce readiness ACP implementation
The Agentic Commerce Protocol lets AI assistants find your products, handle payment, and create a valid order in your systems on a shopper’s behalf. 1902 Software handles the full implementation, so an agent finds everything it needs to complete the purchase in your store.

Sell where your customers are already asking

ACP is an open standard for agentic commerce that defines how an AI assistant finds products, handles payment, and creates a valid order on a shopper's behalf without them lifting a finger.

A shopper tells an AI assistant what they need, the assistant evaluates options and moves to checkout -- all within the same conversation. Whether that checkout produces a real order in your systems depends on what your store can return at that moment: accurate stock, the correct price, applicable tax, and a working payment path. A store that cannot answer does not get a second chance. The agent moves to one that can.

ACP implementation is what puts your store on the right side of that decision, and that is what we do.

  • Checkout sessions built around how your store actually handles carts and orders
  • Product feed structured from your real catalog, not a generic export
  • Payment flowing through your existing provider, fraud checks included
  • Tax, returns, and commerce rules staying in the systems that own them

What ACP is, and what it leaves to your store

Developed by OpenAI and Stripe, the Agentic Commerce Protocol is an open standard that sits alongside your existing systems rather than replacing them. It can be deployed as a REST interface or as an MCP server. The standard is free to adopt; the work is in wiring it to the commerce infrastructure you already run.

Off-the-shelf connectors rarely cover that gap. Variants may live in a PIM, stock in an inventory or ERP system, and the final price may only resolve once fulfillment choices and tax rules are evaluated at checkout. We connect ACP to the systems that already own those decisions, across Magento, WooCommerce, Umbraco, Shopify, and custom builds.

That is also why a ready-made connector rarely finishes the job. Variants may come from a PIM. Available stock may sit in an inventory or ERP system. The final price may depend on discounts, fulfillment choices, or tax rules evaluated during checkout. We map ACP operations to the systems that already control those decisions rather than replacing them, on Magento, WooCommerce, Umbraco, Shopify, and custom builds.

What your ACP implementation includes

  • Checkout session endpoints: Create, retrieve, update, complete, and cancel, mapped to your store's actual cart and order behavior.
  • Product feed export: Catalog data structured for ACP and mapped from your real product attributes, variants, and inventory fields.
  • Delegated payment handling: Payment routed through your existing provider, with its fraud checks, 3D Secure, declines, and retries intact.
  • Capability declaration and extensions: A statement of what your store supports, including discounts and fulfillment where they apply.
  • Order webhooks: Signature verification, idempotency keys, retry handling, and monitoring for duplicate or delayed events.
  • Checkout-time resolution: Current tax, stock, and pricing supplied by your own systems at the moment an agent requests checkout.
  • Monitoring and alerting: Visibility into checkout session failures, webhook failures, and product feed errors.

How to engage us for ACP implementation

  1. Start with a fixed-price technical audit. We begin with a technical audit of your ecommerce stack. The resulting capability matrix shows which ACP requirements are available now, available with configuration, require development, or are blocked by a system limitation, and which payment route applies to you. That last point matters early, because whether your provider already supports an agentic route or your store needs a custom handler affects cost and timeline more than any other choice in the project.
  2. Move from findings to implementation. Project Scoping turns the audit findings into an agreed scope and price for a Fixed Price Project. If your team wants to shape the solution hands-on with our developers, Co-Dev is the alternative.
  3. Keep the specification current. After launch, Continuous Monthly Development can cover specification upkeep, including assessing new releases and updating the implementation when needed.

Find out what your store needs

A 30-minute call is enough to tell whether ACP on your store is mainly a data job, an integration build, or something to prepare while the routes open to you. Bring your ecommerce platform and payment provider and we will tell you which one it looks like.

Commonly asked questions

What is the difference between UCP and ACP?

They are two sets of rules for the same job: letting AI assistants find your products and help customers buy them. UCP comes from Google and Shopify, and ACP comes from OpenAI and Stripe. They are deployed on different assistants today, so which one matters first depends on where your customers shop. The underlying work is the same either way. Your product information, prices, and stock levels have to be accurate and readable by machines, and with that in place, supporting either one, or both, is far more straightforward.

Do we have to choose between UCP and ACP?

Not to get started. Preparing for both is mostly the same work, so we build the groundwork that serves either. Enabling a specific protocol then becomes a configuration decision rather than a rebuild.

Does this replace our existing checkout?

No. It adds a purchase path alongside your website and app checkout. You keep your payment provider and fulfill orders as you do today.

Can we keep our existing payment provider?

In most cases, yes. Payment continues through your existing provider, including its fraud checks and card security steps, and you remain the merchant of record. Support varies by provider and by route, which is one of the first things the audit establishes.

Is the ACP protocol free?

Yes. ACP is published under an open source license and is free to implement. Connecting it to your commerce systems requires engineering, testing, monitoring, and ongoing version management.

What if our product data is not ready?

That is a common starting point rather than a blocker. Agents compare products using the information they can read, so thin or inconsistent content limits which products get selected. The audit identifies which attributes are missing and which systems they need to come from, and WriteText.ai can help produce titles, descriptions, and metadata across a large catalog.

Who handles tax, returns, and fraud?

You do, through the systems that handle them now. ACP defines the exchange between the agent and your store, not your commerce rules, so your systems must return the correct tax, stock, and price when checkout is requested and continue to own returns and fraud decisions.

How do we know an agent can actually buy?

You get conformance results showing the implementation meets the specification, and end-to-end tests that run real purchases. The tests cover where these connections usually break: stock running out between the moment an agent finds a product and the moment it pays, a session expiring mid-purchase, an order confirmation arriving twice or out of order, a declined card, and a timeout partway through.

Who owns the code once the project is finished?

You do. All the code we write for your ACP connection goes into your own repository, so you are not locked into us.
