We don’t use freelance developers. All developers and project managers are employed by 1902 Software and work in our office. Moreover, your source code is secured and will only be shared to you in an agreed file sharing system.

Integration with third-party systems

It’s practical and necessary that companies have IT systems with the ability to exchange data. We have extensive experience in integrating Magento with third-party systems such as:

  • ERP systems (e.g., Navision, e-conomic, SAP, etc.)
  • Integration with affiliate systems (e.g, TradeDoubler)
  • General B2B integration (e.g., synchronize inventory, prices, and other features with the IT system of your supplier)
  • Automation of shipping by integrating with a drop shipping store
  • Integration with cash registers
  • Automation of internal business processes

We use extensions when doing integrations. If a specific extension is not available, we develop it ourselves.

Integration with social media

We implement integration between webshops and various social media platforms. Since the possibilities are constantly changing, it’s best to review your social media requirements while the shop is being designed. We make these integrations:

  1. Facebook ‘like’ and links to Facebook pages. You can also let users create an account in the store using their Facebook login.
  2. Integration with Google+’s like-action ‘+1’. A large number of +1 contributes to better placement in Google search.

Search Engine Optimization is one of the most important tasks when running a webshop. One can have the biggest and finest shop in the world, but if it’s not seen online by its target market, the shop defeats its purpose. In addition to our technical knowledge in Magento, we also have a lot of experience working with SEO experts. When we make a new webshop, we configure SEO features such as:

  1. Configure canonical linking (to avoid duplicate content).
  2. Disables Google indexing of internal search results (the shop’s own search engine).
  3. We make automatic sitemap updates.
  4. We set up a 404 page (the page that appears when a page that does not exist is accessed). 404 page can be configured to display products, offers, or news.
  5. We set up Google Webmaster Tool.
  6. We configure robots.txt (the file that helps Google find what to index).
  7. We configure the URL structure of the webshop.
  8. We create 301 redirects to reduce the loss of “link juice” from Google when you move the old store to a new one. When it comes to SEO, there are no two webshops alike. We can work with you or your SEO consultant to ensure that the technical SEO is done properly. We also take into account your SEO consultant’s special requirements.

As your webshop grows and your market expands, it may be necessary to create another webshop. Fortunately, Magento’s built-in functionality—i.e., multiple storefront—makes it possible to have multiple stores with the same backend.

This means you can have two, three, or more shops (with their own domains and design) which all use the same back-end. The advantage is that you can control all your webshops without having to log in and out, and that these multiple shops can use the same storage system or shipping module.

We do not offer Magento hosting. Instead, we work with hosting companies to ensure that everything is optimized for Magento, specifically with companies that support Varnish and Memcache caching. We can also install Magento in a cloud storage system, such as Amazon.

Speed optimization

When your shop page loads fast, you get a great buyer’s experience with better ratings for your shop with Google. We are very focused on speed optimization, and we take it into consideration when designing a webshop. To ensure that the shop loads as soon as possible, we conduct the following optimizations:

  • We compress selected JavaScript’s and CSS files.
  • We reduce the size of the images used in the webshop.
  • We set up and configure the CDN (Content Delivery Network).
  • We set up and configure Varnish and Memcache caching. (Varnish and Memcache often require a special hosting plan and not all hosting companies offer it.)

Why choose Magento for your webshop?

  1. You can choose from a wide range of modules that are often low-priced.
  2. It’s easy to design, in contrast to proprietary systems that are usually not user-friendly.
  3. Magento is scalable. The system grows with your shop. Moreover, it has a feature called multiple storefront, enabling you to have multiple online stores—with their own domains and designs—which all use the same back-end. You can conveniently administer multiple shops without having to log in and out.
  4. You have full access to both the source code and database. It is, therefore, easy to make changes in the system.
  5. Magento is used for free. It is an open source software, which means you can install it wherever you want without being bound to any obligation with your IT supplier. You can change both the IT company and hosting provider anytime.
  6. There are many forums online where you can get help.
  7. You can get a Magento manual directly from Magento eCommerce. It’s very informative and provides a thorough explanation of what Magento can offer your business.

Data migration

If you have an existing webshop, all data (products, inventory, customer data, etc.) are transferred from the old shop to the new one before the new store goes live. We have smoothly done this many times before for a lot of clients.

However, you must ensure that the data can be exported from your old shop before we make your new shop, especially if you have multiple products (the alternative is that you enter the products manually, which is very time-consuming). It’s important to note that the company or person who owns the proprietary system determines who gets access to the data.

We’ve had scenarios where the client’s previous proprietary webshop system did not allow for their webshop data to be copied or exported when they wanted to migrate to Magento. The only solution was to enter all products, customer data and inventory information manually. In this situation, it’s possible to run "scraping"—a program that reviews a webshop, then copies texts, prices and photos into a database. Afterwards, the data can then be exported to Magento. But this requires a lot of work and should only be made if there are no other alternatives.
